Explain how your chosen filming technique frames how we read the city.

The point of view perspective is based on the referenced film ‘Enter the Void’ and shows limited vision as it's only capturing one person. The camera frame doesn’t possess the same range of sight as a human would, making the technique difficult to apply realistically, but can assist in highlighting details and reveal where the character is looking. This is utilised in the beginning transition scenes where the actress looks up surveying the environment and looks down at the menu. ‘Enter the Void’ uses this in a way that is highly engaging and makes the viewer feel part of the movie and visually connect with the main character, Oscar. The addition of following shots which are also featured in the film are used simultaneously to give the viewer context on what is occurring to inform the subsequent point of view perspective.

The location of the film is confined to one place to gain a better understanding of the environment in comparison to a constantly changing scenery. It effectively represents the subtle part of the city that often goes unnoticed amongst its busy impression. The film is intended to represent an exploration of the mundane activities as someone who experiences the city. Character is faceless and 'unknown' to represent the many people we come into contact within the city but do not know them personally.
The music that is accompanying the film is upbeat as it would be refreshing to experience life as another person and to see the city as an 'urban jungle.'

The scenery narrows in on the culture of city life in Australia where florists, flowers, natures, and buildings are encouraged even in the urban built environment. The location is peaceful, and the afternoon sun creates a sense of adventure (exploration and experience of the urban jungle) and similarity to a safari setting. The light was a crucial feature in creating the sinister atmosphere of ‘Enter the Void,’ along with the use of shadows and negative space. In my film, this is highlighted in the window scene to show the difference in view between an onlooker viewpoint and as the person. The inside of the store is shaded while the world beyond is bright.
